Barbus callipterus(Red Finned Barb, Clipper barb)

A medium sized barb that has been popular for many years.

Silvery fish with a reddish tint. Scales are large and edged with black, particularly along the lateral line. A red and black patch is on the dorsal fin, and the top half of the eye is usually red or orange. Males and females similar, though the males are more slender.


Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

Lively, tolerant species that works well with other fish that are not too aggressive. Combines well with kribs, Congo tetras, mormyrids, and upside-down catfish. Should be kept in a school of at least 5 specimens. This species jumps well, so keep the tank covered!

Has not been bred in captivity.
