Hyphessobrycon socolofi(Lesse Bleeding Heart Tetra)

Similar to the bleeding heart tetra but much smaller and the red patch on the flanks is far less distinct. The sexes are similar, but the anal fins of females is edged with red, while males have fins lacking this adornment. Males tend to be rather bigger as well.


Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

A peaceful, schooling fish that prefers midwater levels of the aquarium. It is a shy species that will only do well in a tank with plenty of cover (e.g., live or plastic plants) and peaceful tankmates of similar size and temperament.

This fish breeds in a similar way to other small tetras. Soft, acid water is essential. Eggs are scattered on the bottom of the tank and are prone to bacterial and fungal decay. After a few days the fry are free swimming and will accept small live foods such as brine shrimp nauplii.
