Brachyrhaphis parismina(Parismina Bishop)

Greenish-grey fish marked with a thin dark line running along the midline of the body. There is a large black spot at the base of the tail fin.

Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

Hardy and easy to keep, but these fish are aggressive and may nip the fins of fish kept with them. Best kept in a single species aquarium, preferably with only a single male per tank.

Breeding is easy, with gestation taking about a month and up to 25 fry being produced. However, these fish will eat their offspring, so the females should be kept in a thickly planted aquarium that allows the fry some cover until they can be removed.

Family Group: Livebearers
Distribution Costa Rica
Temperature 24-28 C
Size 7 cm, males smaller
Water Parameters Slightly hard and alkaline preferred
Water PH 7.0 to 7.5
