Inlecypris jayarami

A small, nicely coloured relative of the danios ideally suited to the community aquarium. Basically danio-like in shape and build, but with a coppery tone to the body. A solid dark band runs from behind the gill cover to the base of the tail, and above this is a series of coppery bars forming a broken line between the gill covers and the base of the tail. Sexual dimorphism not known for certain, but as with other danionins, the female is likely larger and more robust.

Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

This species is not widely traded. Basic care similar to other danionins. Water chemistry is not critical, but water quality should be good, and the temperature must not be too high. Provide a good water current and plenty of oxygen.

Diet consists mostly of insects in the wild, but in the aquarium flake, bloodworms, daphnia, brine shrimp etc are all readily taken. Keep in a fair sized group: not less than six specimens. In smaller groups bullying is common. An excellent jumper, so unsuitable for uncovered tanks.

Not yet bred in captivity, but likely similar in method to other danionins.
