L014 (Scobinancistrus aureatus, Goldie Plec, Sunshine Plec)

L014, now known as Scobinancistrus aureatus, is one of the more spectacular loricariids and always popular with aquarists. Juveniles have a greenish body covered with small white spots, and the fins are a rich orange or yellow in colour. Adults are similar but not quite so brilliantly coloured as the juveniles, though still impressive fish. At up to 30 cm in length, this is a medium-sized species that can work well with peaceful tankmates of comparable size. A typical Rio Xingu fish in terms of care: it prefers above average temperatures and water that is soft and slightly acidic.

Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

Territorial and robust, tankmates should be chosen from species able to tolerate the relatively warm and acidic water conditions this species needs. Discus, angelfish, gouramis, and clown loaches would be ideal. Because of its size and its propensity to burrow, not so good with plants. In terms of food, will eat some algae and vegetables, but also appreciates catfish pellets, algae wafers, bloodworms, etc. Not believed to actually digest wood, but providing some bogwood as a source of dietary fibre is a good idea.

Not yet bred in captivity.
