Caquetaia umbrifera (Turquiose cichlid, Umbie, Cichlasoma umbriferum)

Very big and deep bodied. Males have a pronounced nuchal hump and longer fins. Basic colour is greenish-blue with pearly spots on the flanks and fins. In breeding condition the males can acquire a coppery tone to the body, while females become more green. Though exceptionally attractive fish, their size makes these fish for advanced hobbyists only.

Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

An open water predator on fish and crustaceans, so cannot be kept with any animals small enough to eat. Very aggressive and territorial, and best kept alone or (in a very big tank) with robust heavily armoured catfish such as loricariids and thorny catfish of similar size. Extremely disruptive and will uproot plants and try to move pipes, heaters and other fixtures in the aquarium.

Large size largely precludes captive breeding, though it has been done. Because the males are exceptionally aggressive they will kill unresponsive females. A tank divider that lets the female escape if she needs to is therefore essential.
