Otocinclus affinis (Dwarf Suckermouth)
A small algae-eating catfish with a grey upper surface and pale underside, and a dark band running from the snout to the base of the tail. The only sexual differences seem to be in body shape, the females being stockier.
Fish information (behaviour and breeding):
An active, somewhat sociable catfish that doesn't really form schools but is certainly happier when kept in groups fo three or more specimens. While widely sold, this catfish is not easy to keep, particular in immature aquaria. Good water quality is essential, as is a high oxygen concentration. Feeding presents few problems as they will eat green algae as well as blanched lettuce and slices of cucumber and courgette. These fish can be parasites on slow moving species, eating the algae and causing blisters and skin damage. Do not combine with fish such as angels, large gobies, gouramis, etc. On the other hand, they work very well with tetras, Corydoras, dwarf cichlids, etc.
Breeding possible and similar to other small loricariids such as whiptail catfish.
