Misgurnus anguillicaudatus (Weather Loach, Chinese Weather Loach)
This is the ubiquitous weather loach sold alongside goldfish in many pet stores. There are other weather loaches, but none is so widely traded.
Fish information (behaviour and breeding):
An easy, tolerant species ideally suited to the coldwater aquarium. Feeds on lfetover food, catfish pellets, insect larvae, and worms. Completely peaceful, it will get along well with goldfish, koi, sunfish, and other non-predatory coldwater species. The only real problem with this fish is its propensity to burrow, as it will uproot plants that are not potted or otherwise made secure.
Does not breed regularly in aquaria, but may breed in ponds more easily.
