A very distinctive species with a body that is grey in front, pinkish orange behind, and marked with three oblique transverse bands where the two colours meet. The tail fin is yellow.
Fish information (behaviour and breeding):
Demands clean water, plenty of water current, lots of oxygen, and an abundance of appropriate foods. In the wild these fish live in fast-flowing streams where the water is very clean and typically cooler than the waters from which most other tropical fish come from. For this reason, these fish are best mixed with subtropical species like danios, Scleromystax barbatus, golden barbs, etc. that will thrive in similar conditions. Feeding is tricky because they are somewhat retiring and can lose out when kept with other bottom feeders. Provide things like bloodworms as well as algae wafers. Flake and pellets may be ignored. Shady areas under bogwood and large boulders are highly appreciated.
