Bathyaethiops breuseghemi (African Moon Tetra)
Closely related to Bathyaethiops caudomaculatus, a species also known as the African Moon Tetra within the aquarium trade. Body silvery, somewhat transparent, with a distinctive black patch just ahead of the caudal peduncle.
Fish information (behaviour and breeding):
A peaceful schooling fish. Not a fin-nipper. Shy, and needs to be kept in reasonable numbers (at least six individuals) in an aquarium with lots of shade, particularly floating plant leaves.
Basic care similar to other small African tetras such as Nannaethiops unitaeniatus. Requires good water quality and water chemistry that is not too hard. Does not appreciate very warm conditions, so is best kept with species that also appreciate slightly cooler than normal conditions, such as Corydoras and danios.
