Datnioides microlepis (Siamese Tigerfish)

Specimens from Southeast Asia normally have five vertical bars running slightly obliquely down the flanks. Fish from Borneo often have one or two additional bands as well. Shorter bars and speckles may be present in between these bands.

Easily confused with Datnioides quadrifasciatus, a species that is less deep bodied than this one and has much larger scales, particularly on the flanks.

Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

This fish can get relatively large and therefore they require adequately sized accomodation. In their natural habitat they are a predator. As long as they are kept with fish of a similar size they are unlikely to be aggressive and at full size they do look very impressive.

There are no reports of this fish being bred successfully in aquarium conditions.
