Kryptopterus minor (Asian Glass Catfish)
An elongate, leaf-shaped catfish that is completely transparent except for the eyes and the body cavity.
Very often referred to as Kryptopterus bicirrhus in older aquarium books, this is a sociable, midwater catfish that makes an excellent addition to the quiet community tank. They do well at quite high temperatures, and would get along well with other warm water species such as discus.
Fish information (behaviour and breeding):
Unlike most other catfish, this species is active by day. It is also intensly social, and must always be kept in groups, ideally of 5 or more specimens. When kept singly or in pairs or trios, these fish tend to be shy, and gradually pine away, eventually dying prematurely.
Do not keep this fish with nippy or aggressive tankmates, such as swordtails or blue gouramis. Also take care to ensure that these catfish are feeding; they prefer frozen bloodworms and other small invertebrates, and cannot be relied upon to eat flake.
