![]() |
This species resembles a slender version of the more popular head-and-taillight tetra, having a coppery spot at the base of the tail and a silvery patch at the top of the head. Males are more slender than females and have a small hook on the anal fin.
This is a delightful fish for aquaria with similar sized species. Looks best in water filtered through peat or with blackwater extract added.
Fish information (behaviour and breeding):
A peaceful, schooling fish that prefers midwater levels of the aquarium. It is a shy species that will only do well in a tank with plenty of cover (e.g., live or plastic plants) and peaceful tankmates of similar size and temperament.
This fish breeds in a similar way to other small tetras. Soft, acid water is essential. Eggs are scattered on the bottom of the tank and are prone to bacterial and fungal decay. After a few days the fry are free swimming and will accept Liquifry as well as small live foods such as brine shrimp nauplii.
