Hyphessobrycon loretoensis (Loreto Tetra)
A small tetra that is not widely traded but can work well in community tanks alongside other small species. Essentially a semi-transparent silver, there is a fuzzy copper and blue band running along the flanks. The tail fin is red.
Fish information (behaviour and breeding):
A peaceful species, this fish gets along well with fish such as neons, hatchetfish, and the smaller Corydoras. Do not mix with aggressive species, such as many dwarf cichlids, or types prone to be predatory, such as angelfish.
This species has not yet been bred in captivity.
|Water Parameters||Soft, acid water preferred|
Useful sources of information:
For a well illustrated and detailed reference guide on this and many other fish, consider the Baensch Aquarium Atlases. Volume 1 contains all the common species, and later volumes cover more unusual species. You can buy these books here.
