Pseudolithoxus anthrax (L235, Flyer Plec)

We have used the scientific name provided by DATZ.

This L Number is also known more commonly as the Flat Flyer Plecostomus or the Flyer Cat. These lovely specimens (belonging to the family Loricariidae) are dark grey or charcoal in colour and covered in numerous white or cream colored spots. When mature, their cheeks develop bristles on them and the males can actually be identified by their much larger, more impressive cheek bristles.

They should really be given a larger tank with adequate filtration and a moderate flow to stimulate their natural environment. The tank should have driftwood and rockwork caves. Being a peaceful species, they can live with a wide variety of community fish.

Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

L Numbers are generally peaceful although they can at times have a tendency to be territorial particularly towards their own species.

This fish has similar requirements to other loricariids, so should do well in a South American biotope tank or simple community tank

Ideally should be kept in soft and acidic water with a pH of 6.0, but probably quite adaptable to harder, more alkaline waters, like other loricariids

Does well on commercial "algae" wafers but requires a meaty element to its diet (probably met by insect larvae in the wild). Newly imported specimens may require meatier foods to acclimatise properly.

Family Group: L Numbers
