Apistogramma diplotaenia (Double-banded Apistogramma)

This species is distinguished by having a pair of bands along the flanks. These meet at the eye, separate along the flanks, and then meet again at the tail. On some males the region within these bands can be very dark.

Male fish also have blue-coloured fins and longer rays in the dorsal fin.

Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

These fish are peaceful. Their tank should be well planted and include many hiding places. The male usually occupies a territory with just one female.

While breeding is essentially the same as with other species in the genus, this is a difficult species to spawn. It needs soft and acid water, and appears to be quite sensitive to poor qater quality and disease.

Family Group: South and Central American Cichlids
Distribution Brazil
Temperature 24-28C
Size 3 cm
Water Parameters Soft, acid water essential
Water PH 5.5-6.5
