Similar to regular Pelvicachromis humilis but with less obvious vertical bars on the flanks (practically absent from the female) and sporting pinkish pelvic and anal fins. The female is rose coloured around the belly. Sometimes known as Pelvicachromis humilis "Liberian Red".
Fish information (behaviour and breeding):
These are generally peaceful fish that will only display aggression at breeding time. They are cave spawners so provide them with one or two flower pots and partially fill the pots with gravel. Also provide plenty of planted matter which will give the female plenty of opportunity to hide from the male if he becomes aggressive at breeding time.
Provide the with soft acidic water conditions. The males are distinguished by the fact that they have more pointed and elongated dorsal fins. The female in contrast has more rounded dorsal and anal fins. If breeding is close they will remove most of the gravel from the flower pot. The parents will guard the eggs and after several days the fry will leave the confines of the flower pot.
