Rita rita 'Albino' (Albino Rita Catfish)

A huge riverine catfish unsuitable for home aquaria. Body colour of normal fish is silvery brown, fins pinkish; albino fish basically pinkish white. The mouth is very large but the eyes are tiny.

Primarily of value as a food fish, occasional specimens may turn up in aquarium shops.


Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

This wide ranging species is found in large river systems including brackish water estuaries. A predatory catfish, this species eats fish, crustaceans, molluscs and insects. Not particularly territorial or aggressive, so potentially viable in a jumbo community alongside pacu and other giant fish, but highly predatory,

Requires a big tank with powerful filtration. Not recommended for home aquaria.
