A spectacular species of Syncrossus noted for its brilliant chocolate brown bands and pearly-pink body. Juveniles at least have yellow dorsal, anal and caudal fins and the dorsal fin is orange. The body is streamlined and relatively slender, suggesting that this fish is a good burrower and prefers a tank with a sandy substrate. Like other members of the genus, the sexes are largely similar in appearance, though mature females will be more chunky around the abdomen.

Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

This is a newly discovered species of Syncrossus about which very little is definitively known. It is presumably similar to other members of the genus in terms of behaviour and adult size.

Other members of the genus are moderately to fairly aggressive when mature, so care should be taken when combining with other species. As with other Syncrossus, social behaviour is pretty rough, and these fish are either to be kept singly (in which case they will be very shy) or else in groups of half a dozen specimens (so that aggression is safely diffused within the group). In twos and threes, Syncrossus tend to form unstable groups where one fish becomes a nuisance bully.

Best kept with big midwater barbs, robust cichlids, catfish, etc. Do not mix with more placid loaches (such as clown loaches), but equally do not mix with larger and more aggressive species either.

Like other Syncrossus, an abundance of hiding places is essential. Provide plenty of robust plants, bogwood, and caves so that the fish can find cover easily without fighting with other bottom dwelling fish.

Feeding should present few problems. Offer catfish pellets, algae wafers, bloodworms, earthworms, krill, etc. All Syncrossus require clean water with lots of water movement and excellent filtration. Do not keep in an immature aquarium.
