![]() |
Males and females essentially identical in terms of colouration, both being brownish with bright blue spots across the head and body. Males are larger than females.
These fish live in the surf zone, swimming around the rocks feeding on algae and small animals. They need exceptionally good water quality to thrive, even by the standards of Tanganyikan cichlids generally.
Fish information (behaviour and breeding):
Small but challenging cichlids for the specialist. These fish are territorial but their small size puts them at a disadvantage in the standard Tanganyikan community tank. Amongst themselves they tend to squabble. Consequently, breeding in aquaria is uncommon. They are known to be biparental mouthbrooders. The females incubates the eggs for a few days, then the male.
Feeds primarily on aufwuchs, so a mixed diet of algae and small live or frozen foods is recommended. Not enthusiastic about flake or pellets.
