Hyphessobrycon pulchripinnis (Lemon Tetra)
A very pretty tetra which is commonly available in the shops. A schooling fish and consequently they are best kept in a group, usually six or more.
You can see from the attached photographs that they have a very distinctive yellow colouration.
Fish information (behaviour and breeding):
Sexing is no too difficult. The females have a deeper body and the black edge of the anal fin in the males is more pronounced than in the females.
To achieve breeding success, keep the fish in soft acidic water. Condition the fish on a varied diet and then place a group (at least three females to every male) in a tank of between five and ten gallons in size. They are egg scatterers and if spawning does take place remove the adults. The eggs normally hatch in 24 to 36 hours and the fry should be free swimming after about five days. Feed them on infusoria for the first few days before moving on to larger food such as newly hatched brine shrimp.
Further fish details are shown below:
|Water Parameters||Prefers soft and acidic water but should adapt to most water conditions|
