Acanthocobitis botia (Mottled Loach)

A pretty loach with a whitish body covered with large, irregular greyish-brown patches and spots. It has a fairly elongate body, though not quite as long as that of a kuhli loach.

A typical mountain stream denizen, this loach needs water that is not too warm, is well oxygenated, and provided with plenty of water current. As such, while not a perfect fish for the average community tank, it would be a good match for species such as danios, minnows, and hillstream loaches.

Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

A harmless bottom dweller, this species naturally inhabits streams with pebbly and sandy substrates, where it searches for insect larvae and other small animals.

Not yet bred in aquaria.
