Xiphophorus maculatus (Platy)

One of the most popular livebearers and an excellent fish for aquarists living in hard water areas. Available in a myriad of colours as well as forms with fancy fins, these fish are generally hardy, completely peaceful, and easy to breed.

Orange, red, and green varieties are among the most commonly found, but albino, blue, and other colour forms can be seen as well.

Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

A peaceful, colourful fish that can be shy when kept with larger and more aggressive fish, but with its own kind and other quiet species, is an ideal community tank resident.

Breeding is not difficult, with fry being produced every few weeks. The fry grow rapidly on algae, small live foods, liquid fry food, and powdered flake.
