Kryptopterus bicirrhis (Glass Catfish)
A popular catfish for community tanks, this schooling, midwater species is not difficult to keep provided its basic needs are met. It needs a shady, well-planted aquarium or else it is prone to becoming very shy. Must be kept in groups! Single specimens invariably pine away.
Diet should include both fresh and dried foods, with live foods being especially popular. Frozen bloodworms and mosquito larvae make a useful staple. Flake may be taken once the fish is settled in.
Fish information (behaviour and breeding):
A schooling species, best kept in groups of 6 or more. Because it is a very peaceful species, do not mix with aggressive or fin-nipping species (such as tiger barbs or serpae tetras). On the other hand, it is predatory, and is quite capable of eating very small fish such as livebearer fry.
This species is not bred in captivity.
