L066 (Hypancistrus sp., King Tiger Pleco, Scribbled Plec)

A small plec with a pale yellow-brown ground colour and fine dark brown squiggles that form a network-like pattern. On juveniles the dark squiggles are quite coarse but contrasty, but as the fish mature the pattern becomes finer if a little less bold. Regardless, this is an attractives species for the community aquarium.

Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

This is an omnivorous species that may eat some algae but mostly feeds on small invertebrates such as bloodworms. Meaty substitutes such as prawn and mussel will be accepted as well. Catfish pellets are also enjoyed. Territorial towards fish of the same species and other plecs of similar shape and size, but can be kept in groups if provided with sufficient space. This species has been bred on occasion. Warm, soft, and acidic water is required, and the fish spawn in a cave. The eggs hatch after a week, and the fry become free swimming within two weeks after that.
