Microglanis iheringi (South American Bumblebee Catfish)
A small pimelodid catfish regularly imported from Venezuela. Noted for its mottled brown and pink banding. Differences between the sexes are limited to the females being noticeably more rotund when sexually mature. There are a variety of lookalike Microglanis species, all very similar in size and habits, but differing in colouration.
Fish information (behaviour and breeding):
Like most pimelodid catfish this species doesn't like overly warm water, but apart from that it isn't fussy or difficult to keep. Will consume pellets and flakes left out at nighttime, but should be offered some meaty foods as well, such as bloodworms and chopped seafood.
