L075 (Peckoltia sabaji, Para Pleco, Ancistomus sp.)
A fairly large, very attractive catfish with a light yellowy-brown body covered with large dark patches. The fins are more strongly coloured than the body, becoming almost golden brown in hue.
Fish information (behaviour and breeding):
A peaceful, relatively inoffensive species that can be kept in groups provided the fish are not too overcrowded. Can also be mixed with other gentle catfish, such as whiptails and Corydoras. Does not work so well with large, territorial plecs, such as Hypostomus and Glyptoperichthys, or aggressive bottom dwellers such as Synodontis or cichlids. This species is nervous, shy, and rather nocturnal, and is best combined with calm, midwater fish such as barbs and characins that will encourage it to swim about during the day. Regardless, provide plenty of cover in the form of floating plants, bogwood, and hollow ornaments such as caves or flowerpots. Infrequently spawned in aquaria, but certainly possible, these fish are cave spawners with the male guarding the eggs. The two sexes are remarkably similar in appearance, but the male may have slightly more developed odontodes on the cheeks and pectoral fins.
