Baryancistrus demantoides (Green Phantom Plec, L200)
At attractive, fairly large plec with a yellow-brown body with small off-white spots on the front half of the body. The fins are distinctly yellowy. Baryancistrus demantoides and Hemiancistrus subviridis are frequently confused. However, whereas the dorsal and adipose fins on Baryancistrus demantoides are connected, they are clearly separate on Hemiancistrus subviridis.
Fish information (behaviour and breeding):
Hemiancistrus prefer to stay hidden among rocks and wood, and rarely leave the lower levels of the aquarium. Naturally found among the rocks in fairly fast flowing rivers, often at depth, but while sensitive to poor water quality and low oxygen concentrations, seems to adapt well to aquarium life. Omnivorous, and does well on algae wafers, catfish pellets, chopped seafood, bloodworms, and soft vegetables. Not bred in captivity.
