Botia udomritthiruji (Tenasserim Emperor Botia)

Irregular chocolate brown bands against a slightly metallic golden brown body. Although unquestionably among the most beautiful of all the loaches, it is a scarce species in the hobby because of the difficult of exporting this fish from the parts of Burma where it is found. As a result, expect to pay a premium for this fish.

Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

Behaviour is typical for the genus: boisterous, somewhat aggressive towards its own kind and other bottom-dwelling fishes. Otherwise not difficult to keep. Care similar to other Botia-type loaches, doing best when kept in a group in a large tank with sand or fine gravel for digging into and lots of shady hiding places including rocks, bogwood, and suitably robust plants (Java ferns are ideal). Not yet bred in aquaria.
