Andinoacara rivulatus (Green Terror, Aequidens rivulatus)
A relatively common cichlid that does have a tendency to be aggressive. It is a territorial fish and should only be kept in a large tank with fish of a similar size or ideally in a tank of their own. Males will develop a hump on their head as they reach maturity.
Fish information (behaviour and breeding):
Breeding these fish is not particularly difficult. The best method is to buy a group of juveniles and grow them on to until they pair off when. As soon as you have a pair remove them to the breeding tank. They will normally lay their eggs on carefully cleaned rocks. Both parents will play a part in defending and bringing the young up, but you should not leave it too long before removing the young or the parents from the tank. The eggs will hatch in around three days and should be free swimming after a further seven to eight days.
