Aphyocharax anisitsi (Bloodfin)
A peaceful, schooling characin well suited to the community tank. Thanks to its hardiness, this is a good fish for the beginner.
These fish are silvery but distinguished by their blood-red pelvic, anal, and tail fins.
Fish information (behaviour and breeding):
This is a hardy, peaceful, and long-lived characin that does well in most community tanks.
Because it can tolerate subtropical as well as tropical temperatures, so could be combined with fish such as sucking loaches, Chinese river gobies, etc.
Easy to breed. Eggs are scattered among plants in their hundreds, but remove parents quickly because they will eat the eggs. The fry hatch after about 48 hours, and for the next few days the fry will use up their remaining yolk reserves. Once free swimming, feed them finely ground flake and newly hatched brine shrimp.
