Orinocodoras eigenmanni (Long-nosed Raphael)

Similar in shape to the common talking catfish (or Raphael) Platydoras costatus but an attractive mottled brown in colour and with a distinctly pointed snout.

Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

A typical thorny catfish in terms of care. Very shy and very nocturnal. Prefers a quiet aquarium with lots of plants and good hiding places. Feeds on a variety of animal and plant foods in the wild, but in aquaria does well on catfish pellets, algae wafers, bloodworms, etc. Although basically peaceful and gregarious (less shy when kept in small groups) it is not above eating very small fishes such as neons and guppies. As with other thorny catfish, while proof against the attacks of territorial bottom dwellers such as cichlids, this does tend to cause these catfish to hide a lot more. Instead, mix this species with placid midwater fish such as larger characins, barbs, gouramis, etc.

Not yet bred in aquaria.
