Bagarius bagarius (Devil Catfish)

A big catfish with a brown mottled body and distinctive flattened, moustache-like whiskers coming from the sides of the mouth.

In the wild this fish inhabits mountain streams and in aquaria does best at relatively low temperatures. A tank with lots of water flow and plenty of oxygen is essential.

Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

A predator, this catfish will eat any smaller fish kept alongside it. Given its large size, choose tankmates with care.

In terms of feeding, it is easy to look after, and will take mussels, cockles, bits of fish and prawn, and other meaty foods.
