Inpaichthys kerri (Blue Emperor Tetra)

Males are larger and have a purplish-blue colour, while the females are smaller and lack the blue. Both sexes have a dark band running through the eyes and along the flanks to the tail. When properly cared for, the males are a luminous blue that can be most striking.

This species of often mistakenly sold as the emperor tetra, Nematobrycon palmeri.

Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

A schooling fish that tends to stay close to the substrate unless the aquarium is thickly planted. It looks its best when kept in tanks where the water is filtered through peat or has blackwater extract added. Not considered to be a hardy fish, this species is only recommended for use in mature tanks with the quietest tankmates.
