Datnioides polota (Four Barred Tigerfish, Datnioides quadrifasciatus)
Easily confused with Datnioides microlepis, this species is not so commonly traded and invariably more expensive. It has a number of thick, oblique bands on the body, but no speckles or incomplete bars in between them. The ground colour is silvery white, though this may become more yellowy or grey as the fish mature.
Datnioides polota was previously known as Datnioides quadrifasciatus.
Fish information (behaviour and breeding):
This fish can get relatively large and therefore they require adequately sized accomodation. In their natural habitat they are a predator. As long as they are kept with fish of a similar size they are unlikely to be aggressive and at full size they do look very impressive.
There are no reports of this fish being bred successfully in aquarium conditions.
