Rhamphichthys rostratus (Long Nosed Sand Knifefish, Trumpet Knifefish)
A unique and beautifully patterned knifefish, the Trumpet Knifefish is an enigmatic species. It is commonly found hiding among leaves. Similar to other knifefish, they are primarily nocturnal and use their long snouts to search for insect larvae or crustaceans. These fish are nocturnal.
Fish information (behaviour and breeding):
In the aquarium, they are mostly peaceful and somewhat shy, so best kept with other peaceful species. This being said, it is worth mentioning they are likely to become aggressive towards conspecifics.
They will usually accept live and frozen food. For example, frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, and other frozen foods. The Long Nosed Sand Knifefish is easily outcompeted for food by fast-moving or more aggressive eaters, so it's worth keeping an eye on that.
We do not currently have enough information regarding breeding this fish.
