Hemigrammus erythrozonus (Glowlight Tetra)
A beautiful, somewhat transparent little tetra bearing a luminous orange band running from above the eye onto the tail fin. The dorsal fin is reddish, and all the fins are edged with white. Males tend to be more slender than females, but otherwise the two sexes are identical.
Fish information (behaviour and breeding):
A very peaceful species that is best combined with other small tetras such as neons and cardinals. Other small but peaceful fish could be used as well, such as sparkling gouramis, Badis, and Corydoras. However, because these fish are very small, they will be readily eaten by otherwise unproblematic fish such as angelfish and Pimelodus pictus.
Breeding is as with other South American tetras, with the parents scattering the eggs among bushy plants. The fry can be raised on powdered flake and small live foods.
Further fish details are shown below:
|Water Parameters||Prefers soft and slightly acidic water, but should adapt to most water conditions|
