Pangio kuhlii (Kuhli Loach)
One of the relatively few completely peaceful loaches, this species is unfortunately very retiring and strictly nocturnal, and unless very comfortable in its aquarium is likely to hide most of the time. On the other hand, it is attractive and fun to watch, and makes a good loach for a small community tank.
In older books, this fish is often called Acanthophthalmus kuhlii.
Fish information (behaviour and breeding):
Very quiet and retiring, this fish appreciates a tank with plenty of hiding places such as hollow ornaments, bogwood, and plants. It likes to burrow into sand or peat. Best kept in small groups.
Although a good scavenger, do not forget to provide this nocturnal fish with a proper diet. Catfish pellets, bloodworms, and flake will all be taken readily.
Breeding is sporadic, but most common in thickly planted tanks with soft, acidic water and a peaty substrate. Females are much deeper bodied than the males, and the fish are known to be egg scatterers.
