Hemiodus microlepis (Small-scale Hemiodus)

A large, streamlined characin with smoky grey tail, dorsal and anal fins and a prominent black spot halfway along the silvery body.

Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

Hemiodus are peaceful schooling fish well suited to large community systems. They should be kept in groups of at least six specimens. Feeding is not a major problem though live foods are preferred. Frozen foods such as bloodworms will be accepted readily, and once settled in flake and pellets may be taken. They need lots of swimming space and a strong water current; they are also exceptional jumpers, so keep the tank covered! Potentially predatory towards very small tankmates. Not bred in aquaria.
