A medium sized barb with a orange to red brackground colour and distinctive greeny-black blotches on the flanks. Some fish have a reddish tint around the face and gills.
Sexual differences uncertain, but males are probably more brightly coloured than the females.
Fish information (behaviour and breeding):
A schooling fish that must be kept in groups of eight or more specimens. Generally peaceful, this species is not known to be a fin-nipper, but since it is so rarely kept it is wise to observe these fish and perhaps avoid mixing them with long-finned fish such as angelfish or gouramis. As with most other barbs, these fish are omnivores, and it is important to provide a balance of meaty and vegetable foods.
Not yet bred in captivity, but presumably similar to other Asian barbs.
