Sinibotia pulchra (Eel Loach, Red-lipped loach, Botia pulchra)

An attractive species with a greenish-gold body and thick brown bands on the back and flanks. The head often has a slight reddish tinge, especially around the mouth.

Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

This fish normally inhabits slow to moderately flowing rivers and is usually found among plants. Replicating these conditions in the aquarium would therefore be useful for the health and happiness of the fish. Ensure that the water in the aquairum is clean and well oxygenated, as these fish are found in clear rather than silty or swampy environments.

Otherwise, these are not problematic fish. They are sociable and should be kept in groups, and need plenty of shade and hiding places to feel at home. Largely ignore their tankmates and can be kept in community aquaria.

Not yet bred in aquaria.
